The biggest Sculpture X-Games ever starts with a blast on Saturday, April 24, 12-4 p.m. at 351 N. Boonville Ave.
95 artists on 22 teams have one week to build a sculpture installation before May 3rd First Friday Art Walk!
Joining the International Sculpture Day 2019 community on April 27, the Kick-Off party will feature hot aluminum pours by MoState Sculpture Club, wood kiln firings by Missouri State University Clayworks, a Metal Raising Demonstration by visiting Taiwanese scholar Yi-Ting Liou, Keychain making from 12-2 p.m. by the MSU Jewelry Students Association, and more. The event is free and open to the public.
Installation constructions will continue through the following week, and final installations will be on exhibition for the May 3rd First Friday Art Walk. Judges for this years competition are Rollo Padilla, renowned sculptor who will be visiting from our Sister City in Mexico and Nick Nelson, Director of the Springfield Art Museum. Judging will take place before First Friday Art Walk, and awards will be announced at 7pm, on May 3rd.
This year International Sculpture Day is huge! It’s also the day that Sculpture Walk Springfield is hosting their 2019 sculpture reveal party at Tie and Timber’s Sculpture Fest, from 4-8pm, so with the two events combined, 45 new sculptures will be popping up throughout Springfield! Springfield has become Sculpture City!
