The day before a scheduled public forum to discuss a proposed Sculpture Walk in downtown Springfield, yarn.bombers from the ideaXfactory coordinated a 48-hour public art installation event at the Springfield Art Museum — creating a spontaneous bright-colored trail of yarn that is a fun metaphor designed to engage, entertain, and guide visitors throughout the Museum.

As a metaphor to the sculpture walk, the ideaXfactory crew hoped, rather than plan a linear sculpture walk, the forum would encourage discussion of a public art master plan to connect community art centers. It was also intended as reminder that public art can act as a way-finding system in a way that traditional signs and streets do not.

yarn.bombers meet weekly at the ideaXfactory to share skills, materials, and plan temporary public art installations. Musical soundtrack for this stop-motion video is the song “Bird Years” by local indie folk-rock band Plaid Dragon, from the Dog Physics EP.
