suminagashi-1

Yesterday during the Drawing Marathon, our visiting artist Shane Savage-Rumbaugh demonstrated the Japanese art of Suminagashi. Using a brush dipped in ink, Shane dotted the surface of water with layered rings, then swirled the pattern by blowing gently on the water. The ink pattern is then transferred to paper, creating a unique print each time.

Today’s Suminagashi demonstration will be at 3 p.m., and the Drawing Marathon will continue from 1- 5 p.m.

The event is free. All ages welcome. Many different types of drawing media are provided for experimentation. You many also bring your drawing materials if you like.
