Contemporary Art Street Jam on July 5-6 will keep the weekend lively with Live Art, Live Music, painting, sculpture, raku, robots, zines, mosaics, bubble art, PechaKucha X,  and more!

Starting during First Friday Art Walk on July 5

Mill Street will be closed at the corner of Boonville and Mill for art events in the street, grass, back alley, and parking lot next to the ideaXfactory, 351 N. Boonville and SquidFoo Art Gallery, 407 N. Boonville. Don’t miss these free and fun events and opportunities to make some art of your own!

Watch ceramic pottery raku firings by MSU and Drury University Ceramics professors Keith Ekstam and David Cogorno and Live Art painting by Gary Bedell, Tyler Estes, Nick Tarr, Scott Sauer, Houston Hands, Mr. K, Meganne Rosen O’Neal, Cameron Thomas, and John Worcester.

Make robot sculptures from recycled junk with Cathy Russell and Stacie Baldwin. Make a “Weathergram” with the Paper Airplanes Zine Library and learn about letterpress printing. Join in creating an Art of Space super-size “Nest” woven from plastic irrigation tubing. Participate in Christine Schilling’s public art mosaic project “Routes, Rails and Trails.”

Visit Squidfoo for aquaponics and artist studio spaces tours and the opening of the Comics! Art Show featuring the comic, character, and illustration styles of Melissa Carter, Geoffrey Grace, Eric L. Ray, Meganne Rosen O’Neal, Pam RuBert and Scott Sauer. Play the Harmonic Wall by Russ RuBert at the ideaXfactory

Contemporary Art and Graffiti Panel Discussion led by Nick Nelson, Director of the Springfield Art Museum. Following in introduction of different movements of street art, graffiti as vandalism, and Graffiti, the art movement of the 70’s and 80’s, Nelson will discuss topics and questions with featured panelists Sarrita Hunn, Managing Editor of the Temporary Art Review, Gerard Nadeau, Assistant Professor of Architecture at Drury University, Patricia Watts, Founder and West Coast Curator of Ecoartspace, and Gary Bedell, Artist, Springfield, MO. A session for questions and comments from the audience will follow.

PechaKucha X will feature Eric and Jessi Honeycutt, Meredith Burstin, Kyle Scheele, Paper Airplanes Zine Library, Keith Ekstam and more. The 20 x 20 PechaKucha format allows presenters 20 images with 20 seconds to talk about each one — making brief, concise, and entertaining presentations of 6 minutes and 40 seconds on a wide variety of creative topics.
